What is the project objective:
To reduce urban disparities through enhanced economic, social and cultural opportunities for all citizens.
What is the purpose of the the IGEP project:
To provide support to Istanbul, Ankara, İzmir and Bursa municipalities to increase institutional capacity to mitigate socio economic integration and environmental related problems derived from migration, and to rehabilitate and reintegrate street children in the targeted districts.
What is the main content of the IGEP project:
The project has two main components:
- Capacity building targeting the development of strategic actions plans
- Street children and social services.
Each of these components will contain a range of activities:
Component I:
- Baseline surveys & needs assessments for each city
- Preparation of Strategic Action plans 2010-2020
- Formulation of operational programs
- Support to priority setting
- Preparation of feasibility studies
- Environmental Impact Assessment
- Project Management Cycle Training – and other training adapted to the process of developing strategic action plans
- İntroduction to EU Best Practice
- Extensive training adapted to the phases of the development of Strategic Action Plans (from PCM to training in how to make EIAs and Feasibility Studies)
Component II:
- Review of existing experiences
- Preparation of Mission Statement and Work programme
- Design and implementation of operational computer-based system
- Design an integrated and participatory approach for the centres for street children
- Training of staff from the metropolitan munipalities and the staff of the centres
- Facilitation of daily lunches for the children at the centres
Also a long range of activities targeting information sharing, communication, awareness raising and dissemination of results from the project will be implemented during the project life time.
Through the activities the project will target the capacity building necessary to enable the Metropolitan Municipalities to perform their duties - administratively and technically - in the long term planning of facilities and support to the migrating communities in the four cities covered by the project.
At the same time interventions will be implemented in the social area, particularly for children working and/or living in the streets (the exact definition is in the process of being decided together with the municipalities).
